Digging Deeper – February 9, 2018

FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 9

“You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.”

Matthew 5:14-16 ESV

WHEN SICKNESS HAPPENS: SHINE

Tonight our church will join with the Tim Tebow Foundation and over 500 churches around the world in celebrating people with special needs by hosting A Night to Shine.  A Night to Shine is a prom night experience, centered on God’s love, for people with special needs ages 14 and older.

The mission of the Tim Tebow Foundation is “To bring Faith, Hope and Love to those needing a brighter day in their darkest hour of need.” Shouldn’t that be the mission of all of us. In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus called His followers “the light of the world.” The purpose of light is to brighten dark places.

A little boy forgot his lines in a Sunday school presentation. His mother was in the front row to prompt him. She gestured and formed the words silently with her lips, but it did not help. Her son’s memory was blank. Finally, she leaned forward and whispered the cue, “I am the light of the world.” the child beamed and with great feeling and a loud clear voice said, “My mother is the light of the world.” He didn’t know how right he was.

We are the light of the world. Don’t hide your light. Instead, find places and ways to let your light shine. A good starting place is to look for areas of darkness that need light. Instead of complaining about your school, work, neighborhood, politics, or family, look for a way to let your light shine. Ask God what area of darkness He has positioned you to shine in, then go shine!
