“They are to teach what is good, and so train the young women”
Titus 2:3-4 ESV
WONDER WOMAN:A MENTOR
WHAT MY MOTHER TAUGHT ME: My mother taught me RELIGION: When I spilled grape juice on the carpet, she instructed, “You better pray the stain will come out of the carpet.”
My mother taught me LOGIC: From her decisive words, “Because I said so, that’s why.”
My mother taught me FORESIGHT: “Make sure you wear clean underwear, in case you’re in an accident.”
My mother taught me IRONY: “Keep laughing, and I’ll give you something to cry about.”
My mother taught me about STAMINA: “You’ll sit there until all that spinach is finished.”
My mother taught me about WEATHER: “It looks as if a tornado swept through your room.”
My mother taught me THE CIRCLE OF LIFE: “I brought you into this world, and I can take you out.”
My mother taught me about BEHAVIOR MODIFICATION: “Stop acting like your father!”
My mother taught me about ENVY: “There are millions of less fortunate children in this world who don’t have a wonderful Mom like you do!”
A good mom is a teacher and some lessons are harder to learn than others. The Bible teaches us in Titus 2:3-4 that God’s desires women to be teachers. Teaching is a training process that implies an ongoing relationship and responsibility for confrontation and affirmation. The word used for “train” describes outfitting a ship for a long voyage. Women have a strategic role in shaping, growing, encouraging and outfitting others for life’s journey.
We should all be concerned with pouring ourselves into others. Are you mentoring and/or being mentored by someone else? If so, thank God for that relationship. If not, pray and ask God to put you into a mentoring relationship.
