Digging Deeper – August 7, 2018
TUESDAY, AUGUST 7
“Now when they heard this they were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, ‘Brothers, what shall we do?’”
Acts 2:37 ESV
Ron Otto writes, “During my scuba diving training, I asked what should be done if we see a shark. Should we try to stab it with our diving knife? The instructor said, “Don’t do that! You’ll only make him mad.” Then with a smile he went on, “If you see a shark coming after you, take out your knife, and then cut your buddy and swim like crazy.”
Peter’s bold claim that they had crucified Jesus who was Lord and Messiah cut deep into the heart of his audience. In church we often call that being convicted of sin. Their immediate question was, “What shall we do?” When God speaks to our heart, the best question we can ask is, “God, what should we do next?” We call this a crisis of belief. What am I going to do with what God has said to me?
There are times in our spiritual journey when the truth just hits us suddenly. It may be something you’ve heard for years and you finally get it. As you reflect on last Sunday’s sermon or even the last few months in church, can you remember something God convicted your heart about? God doesn’t just move our hearts for the feelings, He also moves in our hearts to change our lives. Ask God what He wants you to do with anything you believe He has cut your heart about lately.
