“praising God and having favor with all the people.”

Acts 2:47 ESV

BOLD BUILDING MISSION

A man walking along a California beach was deep in prayer. Suddenly the sky clouded above his head and, in a booming voice, the Lord said, “Because you have tried to be faithful to me in all ways, I will grant you one wish.” The man said, “Build a bridge to Hawaii so I can drive over anytime I want. The Lord said, “Your request is very materialistic. Think of the enormous challenges for that kind of undertaking. The supports required to reach the bottom of the Pacific! The concrete and steel it would take! It will nearly exhaust several natural resources. I can do it, but it is hard for me to justify your desire for worldly things. Take a little more time and think of something that would honor and glorify me.”

The man said, “Lord, I wish that I could understand my wife. I want to know how she feels inside, what she’s thinking when she gives me the silent treatment, why she cries, what she means when she says, ‘nothing’s wrong,’ and how I can make my wife truly happy.” The Lord replied, “You want two lanes or four on that bridge?”

God was using the early church to build relational bridges with those around them. They were having “favor with all people.” The word “favor” comes from the same word we get the word grace. People were showing the early church grace. The difference God was making in their hearts and lives made them more attractive to the world around them.

When God’s presence and love is evident in our lives, other people want to be around us. They may not even know what makes you different, but they know you’re different. There are times when those without a relationship with Jesus might even say, “I want whatever it is that you have.” When was the last time someone noticed the difference Jesus was making in your life? Did they realize it was Jesus who had made the difference? Ask God to use your life as a bridge to lead someone to Him today.

When a man’s ways are pleasing to the Lord,

He makes even his enemies to be at peace with him.” Proverbs 16:7
