“Long ago, at many times and in many ways, God spoke to our fathers by the prophets, but in these last days He has spoken to us by His Son,”
Hebrews 1:1-2 ESV
JESUS IS WORTH IT: HIS WORDS
A little boy was innocently talking to an arrogant pastor. The little boy said, “Today my dad taught me all about Babylon.” “Really?” replied the pastor. “And how did he explain Babylon?” asked the pastor. The boy replied, “Babylon is what our pastor does every Sunday morning.” Thankfully, our pastor doesn’t “babble on” every Sunday.
The original audience of the book of Hebrews were struggling. They were Jewish converts to Christianity and they were being persecuted for their faith. The author of Hebrews knew they needed to hear from God. He reminded them that God had something to say to them and He was saying it through Jesus. Hebrews 1:2 reminded them, “In these last days He has spoken to us by His Son.” The author believed the more they knew who Jesus really was the better they could hang in there in difficult times.
Jesus didn’t just come to tell us what the Father wants us to know, He came to show us what our heavenly Father wants us to know. We may be tempted to think God is silent or just doesn’t have anything to say to us since we’ve never heard His audible voice. However, so much of what God has to say to us is said through Jesus’ life and ministry. One little girl said, “Some people couldn’t hear God’s inside whisper and so He sent Jesus to tell them out loud.” God desires to speak to each of us. The question is “Are we listening?” When you think about the life and ministry of Jesus in the Bible, what do you think God is saying to you today?
