“and the powers of the age to come,”
Hebrews 6:5 ESV
JESUS WANTS TO AWAKEN ME WITH POWER
A young child was diagnosed with a terminal disease. The parents knew that he would die soon. The child as well knew that his death would be soon. One night he was sitting in his mother’s lap watching television with her. He looked up into her eyes and said, “Mommy does it hurt to die?” The young mother was overcome with grief and had to leave the room for a moment to gather her emotions. She stood in the bathroom and prayed, “God what can I tell him?” She felt that the Lord gave her a word for him.
She went back into the room and said, “Honey do you remember how so many times you have fallen asleep in front of the television and then the next morning you wake up in your room? Well I will tell you what happens. When you go to sleep your father comes in and with his strong arms he picks you up and carries you into your room. And then the next thing you know you wake up in your room. Well, death is just like that. When you die, you fall asleep and Jesus Christ gathers you up in His strong arms and carries you to heaven. And then you wake up in another room!”–Unknown Author
All this week we have been studying some things God uses to shed light on who He is and why we should place our faith in Him for our salvation and our everyday sanctification. When the early church saw the light of Jesus’ resurrection from the dead, they saw a glimpse of the “power of the ages to come.” Ultimately, if they rejected the resurrection of Jesus as a sign of His deity and as their Savior, they would die without hope.
God has the power to carry us from physical death in this world to eternal life in heaven. Many of us have seen our loved ones die and our hope in Jesus is that He has carried them to a home in heaven. And if God can turn death into life, God has to power to get us through anything else this life throws our way. Thank God for His power today. Ask Him to show His power in any area you are feeling weak in today.
But He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of My weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me. For the sake of Christ, then, I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and calamities. For when I am weak, then I am strong. (2 Corinthians 12:9-10 ESV)
