“those who draw near to God through Him,”
Hebrews 7:25 ESV
JESUS IS ABLE TO SAVE THE WILLING
As a female shopper exited a convenience store, a man grabbed her purse and ran. The clerk called 911 immediately and the woman was able to give them a detailed description of the purse snatcher. Within minutes, the police had apprehended the snatcher. They put him in the cruiser and drove back to the store. The thief was then taken out of the car and told to stand there for a positive ID. To which he replied, “Yes Officer, that’s her. That’s the lady I stole the purse from.”
This robber wasn’t the smartest knife in the drawer but he was definitely willing to confess his crime. This week we have looked at Jesus ability to save us in Hebrews 7. The only part we are told we play in the process of being saved in this chapter is “drawing near” to God through Jesus. Jesus does all the saving, but we have to be willing to admit our need to be saved. We have to admit “we stole the purse,” so to speak. This is admitting that we have broken God’s law and that we can’t save ourselves. And when we “draw near to God through Him,” we are admitting we believe Jesus is the only way we can be saved completely and forever from our sins.
Isaiah 55 contains beautiful and powerful imagery about God’s invitation to draw near to Him. To go a little deeper today, take some time and read Isaiah 55. Take note of some of the word pictures of what God offers us when we come to Him. How do those images apply to your salvation and your day to day needs?
