WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 26

“The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light;”

Isaiah 9:2 ESV

SEEING THE LIGHT

Five-year old Johnny was in the kitchen as his mother made supper. She asked him to go into the pantry and get her a can of tomato soup, but he didn’t want to go in alone. “It’s dark in there and I’m scared.” She asked again, and he persisted. Finally, she said, “It’s OK, Jesus will be in there with you.” Johnny walked hesitantly to the door and slowly opened it. He peeked inside, saw it was dark, and started to leave when all at once an idea came, and he said, “Jesus, if you’re in there, would you hand me that can of tomato soup?”

Jesus being in there with us makes all the difference. Certain things in life are absolutely necessary. Air is one of them. We need air to breathe. We need water, also. Humans can only live about three days without water. We also need hope. Life without hope is difficult, if not impossible. Seeing Jesus gives us hope. In Isaiah 9:2 the prophet Isaiah is giving a message of hope to the people of Israel. Hope is like light shining in the darkness. When the dawn of light (hope) comes, we no longer to live in the darkness of the night.

Are you or someone close to you facing any situations that seem hopeless? Do you need God to shed some light on the situation. Pray and ask God to shine His light on this situation.

“I have come as a light into the world, that whoever believes in Me should not abide in darkness.” (John 12:46 NKJV)
