FRIDAY, MARCH 8

“Therefore let us be grateful for receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, and thus let us offer to God acceptable worship, with reverence and awe, for our God is a consuming fire.”

Hebrews 12:28-29 ESV

A PASSIONATE RACE LEADS TO WORSHIPING

Some time ago a man was staying in a chalet in the Swiss Alps. Early one morning he heard what sounded like an earthquake. Hurriedly he got out of bed and ran to the front desk and asked if there was something wrong, if the mountains were breaking up? He was scared. The man at the front desk explained, “Sir, we are on the west side of the mountain. As the sun comes up in the east, and the snow and ice expand as they begin to warm. The expansion causes a large crashing noise. It’s not the end of the world, it’s just the beginning of a new day.

For many of us, it wasn’t until our world was rocked that we came to Jesus or came back to Him. For us that was just the beginning of a new day and a new life in Christ. One of the gifts of faith is a promised stable home in God’s family. According to Hebrews 12:28 it’s “a kingdom that cannot be shaken.” So the author concludes we should “be grateful” and “offer to God acceptable worship.” The way this passage is worded grammatically it could also be translated “keep being grateful,” and “keep offering worship.” It’s a lifestyle of gratitude and worship.

One of the greatest keys to contentment in life is gratitude. When we get to a place of realizing that everything we have is a gift from God and God doesn’t owe us anything we begin to live a life of peace and praise. An old but helpful acronym for prayer is A.C.T.S. The letters stand for Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving and Supplication. Let this acronym be an outline for your prayer time today.
