FRIDAY, APRIL 5
“Only let each person lead the life that the Lord has assigned to him, and to which God has called him.”
1 Corinthians 7:17 (ESV)
ASSESSING YOUR ROLE
A missionary had been assigned to one of the remote islands in the Pacific. After three months, he sent a fax to the mission headquarters saying: “I’m being plagued by rats. What shall I do?” Soon a crate arrived, filled with rat traps. However, about a month later the missionary sent a second fax to headquarters saying: “The rats won’t take the Bait. What shall I do?” Not long after, a second crate arrived, filled with rat poison. However, hardly another month passed, when the missionary found it necessary to send a third fax to headquarters saying: “The rats won’t touch the poison. Do you have any other suggestions?” Soon he received a fax back from mission headquarters saying: “We suggest you get used to the rats!”
None of us want to be assigned to a role that involves a rat plague. But the assignment that many of us do want and that’s best for us is the assignment God has for us. The Apostle Paul reminded the church in Corinth to live the life God had assigned and called them to. Hopefully, this week God has helped you better identify your personal mission and your personal life’s goal. Your roles are the positions that God gives you to live out your mission and life’s goals.
Every role you play takes on greater significance when you see it as part of God’s call and assignment in your life. Sunday Daniel asked you to list the roles you play in life (example: Christian, wife, father, teacher, student, etc.) If you didn’t do it then, write out that list now. Now pray over the list and ask God how each one plays a part in living out your mission and life’s goal. How would you prioritize that list? Are there any roles on the list that you don’t think God wants you playing? Thank God for your roles and commit to use those for His glory and calling in your life.
