More than 27 years ago my wife and I purchased our new home. When the landscape was being installed, we planted a very small 2-ft magnolia tree in the center of our front yard. The rains came through the years and watered that tiny seedling. Days turned into weeks, weeks turned into months, and months turned into years. Before we knew it, that tiny 2-ft seedling turned into a 40-foot giant magnolia tree that was keeping our grass from getting the sunlight it needed. Needless to say, the tree had to be removed.When I think about this story, I’m reminded about the “Law of the Harvest” which says: “You will reap what you sow, you will reap more than you sow, and you will reap later than you sow.” What you plant in life you will reap—not only here on earth, but in eternity to come.What you sow into the life of others is the harvest you will reap in return. Same holds true for work, school, dating relationships, friendships, marriage, fill in the blank _________!Sow to your flesh, reap corruption. So to the Spirit, reap incorruption.I like how the prophet Hosea wrote it: “For they have sown the wind, and they shall reap the whirlwind.” (Hosea 9:7)I like to say it this way:
- Sow a thought, reap an act.
- Sow an act, reap a habit.
- Sow a habit, reap a character.
- Sow a character, reap a destiny.
We have two choices in life: To obey or disobey. To chose life or chose death. To sow good seed or sow no seed at all. I remind and encourage you this morning: The choices you make today will impact your life tomorrow.
