Hope for the Hopeless

“The terrible storm raged for many days, blotting out the sun and the stars, until at last all hope was gone.”

Acts 27:20

The storms of life are real and they’re inevitable. It’s not a matter of “if” but “when” they arrive. I remember like it was yesterday, the only thing my wife ever wanted in life was to be a Mom. However, medically, after what seemed like never-ending test, the team of doctors gave her no hope. They said, “We are sorry, it will be impossible for you to ever conceive a child.” Those words drove a stake through the heart of my wife, Valerie. All hope appeared lost. However, it was in that storm that I claimed God’s promises, and in the quietness of our home, I laid my hands on my wife and prayed over her. I let my request be made known to God to “Open her womb and allow her to conceive a child.” Several weeks passed, and through a series of events, Valerie was pregnant. We were in awe! Then, during her ultrasound the Dr. made an amazing statement. He said, “The fetus is in the “perfect position” inside your womb.” Wow! It was in that moment that we experienced the hand of God turn Hopelessness into Hope! How about you? Could you use some hope in the hopelessness of your storm, and in the rough seas you may be facing? Perhaps the winds of change and challenge are relentlessly beating down and blowing your faith, your family, your finances, your job or your health. Do you feel like all hope appears lost? Allow me to encourage you and remind you to anchor deep into the unshakable promises of God. Hold on tight to the following three anchors—they can and will withstand the waves of doubt, fear and hopelessness in your storm.

  • God Knows You! God has been there all along. He knows your situation. He understands your pain. He knows you by name. The stunning truth is simply this: Hold on tight. God is walking through the storm with you every moment of the day. He knows every finite detail.

Yes, God knows you!

  • Pray! When the storms of life seem hopeless, pray to the One who is in charge and know that He is praying for you. Will God do what you ask? Perhaps—or perhaps He will do infinitely more than you can think or imagine. Stand firm on the promises of God in His Word—and Pray!
  • Stay Connected! In times of hopelessness we can isolate or we can unite. One of the amazing things that can emerge from times of storms is compassion and care that come from godly relationships in your life. God never wants you to isolate. That’s a foothold for the enemy. However, God does want you to surround yourself in healthy, God honoring relationships for encouragement, accountability and support. Whatever you do—Stay Connected!

Listen closely: Hold on tight to these three anchors and ask yourself the following question: Is what I’m anchored to stronger than what I’m going through? God knows. He loves you! And although you may not “feel” like it, He is walking through the storm with you. He knows every detail better than you do. He knows when the storm will pass. He knows and He cares. Yes, the storm will pass, and He will turn your hopelessness into hope.Trust Him!Love God! Love People!
