Day 17 – When God says “Yes”
You also must help us by prayer, so that many will give thanks on our behalf for the blessing granted us through the prayers of many. – 2 Corinthians 1:11 (ESV)
Now that we’ve finished praying through Jesus’ model prayer, let’s focus in these last five days on the ways that God answers our prayers. First up, what should we do when God says “yes” to one of our requests? We give thanks.
Thanksgiving is more than a holiday in November. Giving thanks should be part of every believer’s daily prayer life. When we thank God for answering our prayers, we are recognizing Him as the source of our blessings. This not only honors God but it also protects our heart from pride. In Philippians 4:6, Paul goes even further when he expresses thanks before his requests have been answered: “In everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.” If you want to be more intentional with thanksgiving in your prayers, keep a journal of your requests so that you can periodically look back with gratitude and see all the ways that God has been faithful in His answers.
As you pray today, thank God not only for His answers to prayers that you’ve already received by also for the ones that He hasn’t answered yet.
