Day 20 – When God says “Not Ready”
For though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you again the basic principles of the oracles of God. You need milk, not solid food, for everyone who lives on milk is unskilled in the word of righteousness, since he is a child. But solid food is for the mature, for those who have their powers of discernment trained by constant practice to distinguish good from evil. – Hebrews 5:12-14 (ESV)
The writer of Hebrews was addressing those in the church who were slow to grow spiritually. While God may have wanted them to assume positions as teachers in the church, many weren’t prepared spiritually. They needed to grow more in their faith by focusing on the basics of the gospel again. They weren’t ready for greater responsibilities because they weren’t mature enough. Perhaps you’ve been praying about serving in some greater capacity or beginning a new relationship with someone, but the door just hasn’t opened for you. It could be that God wants you to grow some more in your faith before answering your request. Don’t give up on praying big dreams! Be like the crocodile who continues growing through its lifespan instead of the wasp who’s as big as it’s going to get at birth.
Pray that God would help you stay the course in your journey of growth as you wait for God’s perfect timing in answering your prayers.
