Day 5 – Put my “Yes” on the Table

“hallowed be your name” – Matthew 6:9b (ESV)

To “hallow” God’s name means that we honor, revere or give God the obedience and glory He deserves. God’s “name” means God himself, especially in terms of his revealed character. Hallowing God’s name doesn’t mean that God’s name needs to be made holy (because it already is!), but that it needs to be recognized and treated as such. When we hallow or honor God in this way at the beginning of our prayers, we are putting our “yes” on the table as we wait for His direction. We do this not because we “have to” or “ought to” but because we are convinced that He is perfect, powerful, loving, and a rewarder of those who seek Him. In our sinful world, the reality is that God is not honored or worshipped as He deserves. As followers of Christ, we can do our part to change this by honoring God by obeying Him in the big and small areas of our lives.

Have you taken your “yes” off the table because God asked you to do something you didn’t want to do? If so, tell God that you want to fully trust in Him by obeying Him today. If you haven’t yet put your “yes” on the table, express your desire to honor Him in every area of your life today.
