Day 8 – Pray for Jesus’ Return
“your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven” – Matthew 6:10b (ESV) (Part 1)
The prayer, “Your kingdom come” is connected to this next part of the model prayer – “your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.” As you read yesterday, praying for God’s kingdom to come is praying for God to rule and reign in the hearts of people. The prayer, “your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven,” is the prayer that people would submit to God’s rule “as it is in heaven.” This prayer won’t be completely realized until Jesus returns to earth and makes all things new. Until then, God’s will won’t be done completely and fully because we continue to live in a fallen world, plagued by sin, and infiltrated by Satan’s lies. In a sense, praying this prayer means that we are praying for Jesus to return.
As you pray today, tell How God how excited you are that Jesus will return in His perfect timing to finish the work that He has started in the church and in our world. Ask Him to help you be ready for that day by staying current in your obedience to Him.
