“Let all the house of Israel therefore know for certain that God has made Him both Lord and Christ, this Jesus whom you crucified.”
Acts 2:36 ESV
Growing up we had a cute pet beagle named Snoopy. We did not have a crate to put Snoopy in when we were away from home. And there were days, during his puppy years, when we would come home to various messes that Snoopy had left around the house. I remember my dad taking Snoopy back to the scene of the crime and sternly asking him, “Who did this? Who did this?” And I remember the sheepish guilty look that would be all over Snoopy’s face.
In Acts 2, Paul looks at a large gathering of religious people and essentially says, “You did this.” “You crucified Jesus who was Lord and Christ.” After the crucifixion of Jesus, the disciples had been hiding in fear. But, because they saw Jesus resurrected they possessed an unprecedented boldness. Peter told them Jesus was “Lord.” That means He is God and in charge of everything. He also told them Jesus was “Christ.” Christ is not Jesus’ last name. Instead it means that He was the Promised or Sent One from God the Father. God sent His Son to rescue us from our sins.
The Bible teaches that “We all did this.” Isaiah 53:5 says, “But He was pierced for our transgressions; He was crushed for our iniquities.” Jesus is Lord and He is Messiah. Thank Jesus for coming to rescue you and die in your place. Is Jesus Lord of every area of your life? If there is an area where you have not let Jesus be in charge, talk to God about it today.
