“And they devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and the fellowship,”
Acts 2:42 ESV
BOLD DEVOTION TO LOVING
Perhaps you heard about the church that planned to have the “No Excuse” Sunday Service. Their advertisement for their “No Excuse Sunday” read as follows….Cots will be placed in the foyer for those who say “Sunday is my only day to sleep in.” Eye drops will be available for those who have “tired eyes” from watching TV too late Saturday night. We will have steel helmets for those who say, “The roof would cave in if I ever went to church.” Blankets will be provided for those who think the church is too cold and fans will be provided for those who think the church is too hot. Scorecards will be available for those who wish to list the hypocrites present in church. One section will be devoted to trees and grass for all those who like to see God in nature. Doctors and Nurses will be in attendance for those who plan to be sick on Sunday. Finally, the sanctuary will be decorated with both Christmas poinsettias and Easter lilies for those who have never seen the church without them. (Glenn Ven Eckeren)
The early church was devoted to meeting with each other in their Christian faith journey. They met together on a regular basis. The word “fellowship” describes a close association involving mutual interests and sharing. It denotes the active, joint participation, cooperation and/or sharing in a common interest or activity. Someone else said, “Fellowship is a partnership that involves participation.”
We are in this together. Christians are imperfect people who have been saved by God’s grace that are growing together and encouraging one another. God loves the church and calls it His bride. And even though His bride isn’t always very pretty before the wedding day, He loves her nonetheless. Are you casual about your time with other Christians or is it a priority? Ask God to help you love the “bride of Christ” the way God loves it. Ask God to show you where He would like to see your devotion to time with other Christians grow.
