“through whom also He created the world.”
Hebrews 1:2 ESV
JESUS IS WORTH IT: HIS CREATION
One day a group of scientists got together and decided that man had come a long way and no longer needed God. So they picked one scientist to go and tell Him that they were done with Him. The scientist walked up to God and said, “God, we’ve decided that we no longer need you.” God listened very patiently and kindly to the man. After the scientist was done talking, God said, “Very well, how about this? Let’s say we have a man-making contest.” To which the scientist replied, “Okay, great!” But God added, “Now, we’re going to do this just like I did back in the old days with Adam.” The scientist said, “Sure, no problem” and bent down and grabbed himself a handful of dirt. God looked at him and said, “No, no, no. You go get your own dirt!”
One of the ways the book of Hebrews tried to encourage struggling Christians was to remind them that Jesus created the world. He is the Great Designer. God’s design reminds us that He is a God of great power, wisdom, creativity and detail. You are part of that design.
Pastor Charles Spurgeon wrote, “I love to think that He who created all things is also our Savior, for then He can create in me a clean heart and renew a right spirit within me. If I need a complete new creation—as I certainly do—He is equal to the task.”
Try to get out in God’s creation today. Take a walk, jog or ride. Ask yourself what His creation is telling you about God and His ability and concerns as they relate to you. Praise God for what He shows you in His creation.
“The heavens declare the glory of God; And the firmament shows His handiwork. Day unto day utters speech, And night unto night reveals knowledge. There is no speech nor language where their voice is not heard. Their line has gone out through all the earth, and their words to the end of the world. In them He has set a tabernacle for the sun.” Psalms 19:1-4
