“He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of His nature,”
Hebrews 1:3 ESV
JESUS IS WORTH IT: HIS NATURE
Several years ago a woman in New Mexico was frying tortillas. One of the tortillas burned and the result was an image that looked like a face; she thought it looked like Jesus. She took the tortilla to her priest and he agreed it looked like Jesus, so he blessed it. The woman and her husband took the blessed tortilla back home and placed it in a box surrounded by cotton to make it appear as if it was floating on air. They built an altar around it and started praying there. Word began to spread about the holy tortilla and soon thousands of people visited their home to pray before the holy tortilla.
Some people are desperate to know what God is like. Years ago, singer Joan Osborne asked in a song, “What if God was one of us? Just a slob like one of us. Just a stranger on the bus trying to make His way home.” Jesus gave us the answer to what God is like. And He is not a burnt tortilla.
Hebrews 1:3 teaches us that Jesus is the “exact imprint” of God the Father. This means He is an exact reproduction. As a coin reflects the exact image of the die, so the Son reproduces the precise character of His Father.
Jesus is worth placing our faith in because He is God. 1 John 4 teaches us that one of His characteristics is love. To dig a little deeper today, read 1 John 4. Highlight or write down all the things this passage teaches about who Jesus is. What difference should those things make in your life today?
