“Therefore, while the promise of entering His rest still stands,”
Hebrews 4:1 ESV
JESUS WANTS TO REWARD US: TIMING
If you have ever watched a Tom Cruise action movie you know you can expect some near-death experiences in the film. He always gets out just before the bomb explodes, the helicopter crashes or the car sinks to the bottom of the river. During most of the movie you are led to wonder, “Will he get out in time?”
In Hebrews 4:1, the author is begging people to “get out while there’s still time.” God has invited people to enter His rest. Last week we looked at several of the ways that rest is applied in Scripture. The one thing they all have in common is that “rest” is always God’s reward for people of faith. And the author of Hebrews wants his readers to know that the invitation to enter into God’s rest will not be extended forever.
In business we often say there is a “window of opportunity.” This window may be the best time to buy, sell or make a critical move. And once that window of opportunity is gone, it’s gone. The same is true spiritually. God invites us to salvation and wants to give us the gift of eternal rest in heaven, but that offer won’t last forever. If you’ve never placed your faith in Jesus for salvation, do it today. Is there another act of faith God is asking you to do? What does that window of opportunity look like?
