“Since therefore it remains for some to enter it, and those who formerly received the good news failed to enter because of disobedience,”
Hebrews 4:6 ESV
JESUS WANTS TO REWARD US: OBEDIENCE
A pastor was performing a wedding for a young couple. Before the wedding, the groom came to the pastor and said, “Pastor, I will give you $100 if you change the wedding vows. When you get to the part to ask me to honor, love and obey, just leave the obey part out for me. Then, he handed the pastor $100. During the wedding, when it came time for the young man’s vows, the pastor asked him, “Will you bow down before your bride and obey her every command, serve her breakfast in bed each morning and never look at another woman as long as you both shall live?” In a tiny voice, the groom said “yes.” Then, he whispered in the pastor’s ear, “What happened, I thought we had a deal?” The pastor gave him back his $100 and told him that the bride had offered him $200!
The children of Israel were not allowed to enter God’s promised rest and promised land because of disobedience. They received the good news but did not believe the good news. The evidence that they did not trust God was their disobedience. In the bible, disobedience and unbelief are equated. In other words, genuine faith obeys what Jesus ask us to do.
James 2:14 says, “What good is it, my brothers, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can that faith save him?” It could also be translated, “can that type of faith save him?” A faith that does not turn into actions is considered dead or useless. What are some actions in your life that demonstrate you have placed your faith in God?
