“For though by this time you ought to be teachers,”

JESUS WANTS TO GROW MY LEADING
Little Tommy attended first grade Sunday School faithfully. He loved his teacher, Mrs. Smith. Mrs. Smith told great Bible stories, and she would always end the story by saying, “And, boys and girls, the MORAL of the story is …” Little Tommy enjoyed learning about the morals of each Bible story. But when Tommy entered second grade, he moved up to another Sunday School class, taught by Mrs. Jones. She told Bible stories, too, but she never ended them by giving the moral of the story. After a few weeks Tommy’s mom asked him how he liked his new Sunday School teacher. Tommy said, “Mrs. Jones is okay. The only problem is that she doesn’t have any morals.”
Hebrews 5:12 says, “by this time you ought to be teachers.” The author of Hebrews taught that over time Christians should be growing in their morals and growing as teachers. There was the simple expectation that the longer you had been a Christian the better you would be able to teach others about Jesus and what it meant to be a follower of Him. It was never God’s plan that only pastors or paid ministers were teaching people about Jesus. God wants to grow each of us into teachers.
Most of us probably don’t consider ourselves Bible teachers because we don’t speak in church or teach Bible classes. However, almost all of us have spiritual conversations or conversations that could be spiritual on a regular basis. So many of the people we work with and live around have never been taught the truth about Jesus and how He came to change their lives. These are opportunities to be a “teacher.” How long have you considered yourself a follower of Christ? How many sermons have you listened to and Bible studies have you done? The bigger that number is the more reasonable it is to expect you to be able to teach someone about Jesus. God is at work every day all around us. Ask God to show you a time today when you can teach someone something about Jesus.
