“Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good, for His steadfast love endures forever.”
Psalm 136:1 ESV
THANKFUL FOR LOVE
Signs You Ate Too Much Between Thanksgiving and New Year’s Day: Doctor tells you your weight would be perfect for a man 12 feet tall. You are responsible for a slight but measurable shift in the earth’s axis. Paramedics bring in the Jaws of Life to pry you out of the LAZY-Boy. The potatoes you used set off another famine in Ireland. Pricking your finger for cholesterol screening only yielded gravy. Your arms are too short to reach the keyboard and delete this.
Many of us in America had more than enough to eat yesterday. And many of us have more than what we need to survive. The psalmist, in Psalm 139:1, reminded us to give thanks to God for His goodness which is mostly seen through His steadfast and enduring love.
Rudyard Kipling’s writings not only made him famous but also brought him a fortune. A newspaper reporter came up to him once and said, “Mr. Kipling, I just read that somebody calculated that the money you make from your writings amounts to over one hundred dollars a word.” He reached into his pocket and pulled out a one hundred-dollar bill and gave it to Kipling, saying, “Here’s a one hundred dollar bill, Mr. Kipling. Now you give me one of your hundred dollar words.” Rudyard Kipling looked at the money, put it in his pocket and said, “Thanks!”
Thanks is more than a $100 word. It’s an invaluable word for any meaningful relationship. We all desire to feel appreciated and loved. What are some ways God has shown you love this year? What are some ways that you know His love for you has not changed regardless of your circumstances? Simply thank God today.
