“Therefore do not throw away your confidence, which has a great reward. For you have need of endurance, so that when you have done the will of God you may receive what is promised.”
Hebrews 10:35-36 ESV
ENDURING FAITH BELIEVES GOD’S NOT FINISHED WITH THEIR STORY
When I(Larry) was growing up one of the most popular shows on TV was called Dallas. And the man everyone loved to hate was named J.R. At the end of one of the seasons someone shot Jr. And all summer the big question was, “Who shot J.R.? So you had to wait all summer to hear how the story ended. Spoiler alert: It was his sister-in-law Kristen!
With many of our tv shows we have grown accustomed to waiting for the next season to hear how the story ends. In much the same way our spiritual lives have seasons. These seasons are similar to the weather. There are spring seasons spiritually, when things are just being planted or starting to bloom. There are summer seasons of hard work and sweat. There are fall seasons of harvest when we get to see the fruit of our labor. And there are winter seasons of death and things ending. But after the winter there is always the spring.
The audience of Hebrews was in a tough season. The author of Hebrews reminded them their “great reward” was coming. You may be in a tough season also but your “great reward” and time of harvest is also coming. God isn’t done with you. We can apply the weather season analogy to lots of different areas of our lives in order to gain perspective and hope. Take some time to talk to God about some different areas of your life and the seasons you are in. Ask God for His perspective on your story and what may be next.
