“For, ‘Yet a little while, and the Coming One will come and will not delay;
but My righteous one shall live by faith.’”
Hebrews 10:37-38 ESV
ENDURING FAITH IS EXPECTANT FAITH
There is a story told by Dr. Joseph Stowell, President of Moody Bible Institute, as he visited a home for mentally handicapped children. While walking through the corridors, he noticed that the windows were covered with tiny little hand prints. He asked the director, what they were all about. The director replied, “The children here love Jesus and they’re so eager for Him to return that they lean against the windows as they look up to the sky
This is an old story and even a song was written about it by Newsong called “Fingertips and Noses.” It’s a simple reminder that no matter what our situation we should live with the expectancy of the return of Christ. The Bible promises that ultimately Jesus, “the Coming One,” will return to bring His followers to a home in heaven. Hebrews 10:37 says it will be in “a little while.” That “little while” of waiting is little compared to the eternity we will get to spend with Him.
“So we do not lose heart. Though our outer self is wasting away, our inner self is being renewed day by day. For this light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison, as we look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen. For the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal.” (2 Corinthians 4:16-18, ESV)
Take some time to read all of 2 Corinthians 4. Write down some of the ways God wants us to find encouragement in difficult days that are described in 2 Corinthians 4.
