“of whom the world was not worthy”
Hebrews 11:38 ESV
FAITH PRODUCES WORTH
Three elderly men were talking about what their grandchildren would be saying about them fifty years from now. The first one said, “I would like my grandchildren to say, ’He was a hard worker.” The second one said, “50 years from now, I want them to say, ’He was a loyal family man.” Turning to the third person, he asked, “So what do you want people to say about you in fifty years?” “Me?” the third one replied. “I want them to say, ’He certainly looks good for his age!’”
Hebrews 11:38 gives us a precious view of what God has to say about many in the past who have suffered and died for the faith. God says of them, “of whom the world was not worthy.” Quite often the world does not recognize the value of people of faith. But the good news is that God recognizes your value. There may be times when you feel like doing the “right thing” isn’t paying off or being recognized. Keep the faith and know that God sees.
As we wrap us this week on “faith” from Hebrews chapter 11, here are four basic types of faith we’ve seen in this chapter and opportunities for growth:
Faith that Receives- for example receiving the gift of salvation from God.
Faith that Reckons- which is counting on God to take care of us.
Faith that Risk- this faith dares to do the impossible with God’s power.
Faith that Rest- In the middle of pain, hurt, suffering this faith sits back with peace knowing that God will deliver.
Which of these four types of faith do you believe God may be asking you to exercise in this season of your life?
