“looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who
for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.”
Hebrews 12:2 ESV
LOOKING UP TO JESUS
A woman walks into an optician to return a pair of glasses that she purchased for her husband a week before. The assistant asks, “What seems to be the problem, Madam?” The woman replies, “I’m returning these glasses I bought for my husband. He’s still not seeing things my way.”
The author of Hebrews wants us to see things God’s way. The author says to all of his hearers who are suffering in the faith to look at Jesus. Jesus started our faith and Jesus will perfect our faith. He reminds them of the suffering Jesus endured knowing that there would be joy in the end.
It is easy and tempting to let difficult circumstances cause us to doubt God. But Jesus knows what it’s like to suffer and He also knows it will be worth it end the end. Jesus knows we will have difficult seasons but encourages us to follow His example and know He’s praying for you. Romans 8:34 says, “Who is to condemn? Christ Jesus is the one who died—more than that, who was raised—who is at the right hand of God, who indeed is interceding for us.” How does it make you feel knowing Jesus is praying for you? How should this change our perspective when we are suffering?
