“But when Jesus heard it He said, “This illness does not lead to death. It is for the glory of God, so that the Son of God may be glorified through it.”
John 11:4 (ESV)
MY UNANSWERED PRAYERS: WHEN GOD SAYS “GROW”
A little girl turned to her mother after church and said, “Mommy, the pastor’s sermon was confusing today.” The mother asked, “Why is that, honey?” The little girl answered, “Well, he said that God is bigger than we are. Is that true?” “Yes, that’s true,” the mother replied. “He also said that God lives within us. Is that true, too?” Again the mother replied, “Yes, that’s true.” “Well,” said the little girl, “If God is bigger than us and He lives in us, wouldn’t He show through?”
Does God show through in your life? There are times when God doesn’t answer our prayers because we have some growing to do so He can shine through. In the case of Lazarus’ sickness and death, Jesus was going to “be glorified through it.” When God is glorified, He shows through in a situation or a person’s life. Lazarus’ death and resurrection gave us a better idea of who Jesus was and what He could do.
There are times when God doesn’t answer our prayers right away because He is going to grow us so He can show through us. On Monday, we talked about prayers when God answered with “no.” One good question to always ask with unanswered prayers is, “God is there an area of my life where You want to grow me?” Take some time to think about unanswered prayers in your life and ask God how He wants to grow you.
