“Would that you, even you, had known on this day the things that make for peace!”
Luke 19:42 ESV
JESUS IS STILL THE ONLY WAY TO PEACE WITH GOD
A Facebook meme this week said, “10 kids can pick up 5,000 eggs in a yard the size of a football field in ten minutes. But it takes them 3 months to pick up 5 toys in a small bedroom.” We all know the rush and excitement of small children looking for Easter Eggs as if their life depended on it. And as adults we may not get as excited about finding eggs but most of us are in a desperate search for peace.
This question was once asked, “If you could choose what you want most in life, what would you ask for?” The most common answer was “Peace.” People want peace in their marriages, families, workplaces, country and world. So many people are without peace and the results are devastating. The results are chemical addictions, broken marriages, split families, hatred, rebellion, financial anxiety, a politically and racially divided country. The world tries to provide peace through many forms of escapism… materialism, drugs, alcohol, immoral relationships, and constant entertainment. Those things may provide a type of temporary relief or peace but in the end, they still leave us empty.
In Luke 19:42, Jesus laments the fact that so many people still didn’t realize how to have true peace. True peace is only found in a relationship with our Divine Creator. Within a week of speaking these words Jesus would die for us to make it possible for us to have peace with God and for us to have God’s peace in our lives. The condition was a willingness to place our faith in Jesus as God’s Son and repent of our sin admitting our need for forgiveness.
Do you have peace with God? Do you have the peace of God as you face life’s challenges? Jesus wants you to experience His peace and peace with Him. Ask Him for it.
