FRIDAY, APRIL 19
“Would that you, even you, had known on this day the things that make for peace! But now they are hidden from your eyes…because you did not know the time of your visitation.”
Luke 19:42, 44 ESV
JESUS WILL ONLY RESCUE THOSE WHO WANT TO BE RESCUED
We learned earlier this week that Jesus wept over the city of Jerusalem as He approached it. He wept over the city because of the hurt and sin that was so prevalent. But we learn from Luke 19:42 that He also wept because the people of the city would reject Him as Savior and miss their opportunity to be rescued physically and spiritually. The Bible says, “because you did not know the time of your visitation.” Jesus was right in front of them and they rejected Him.
One fellow was talking to his next-door neighbor about a speaker he heard the night before. He told the neighbor, “That guy said something that has really stuck in my mind. He said that all of the world’s problems could be summed up in two words: ignorance and apathy. What do you think?” The neighbor replied, “I really don’t know, and I really don’t care.”
That’s the attitude of so many about Jesus, “I really don’t know, and I really don’t care.” That attitude should break our heart like it breaks God’s heart. But that attitude should not deter us from following Jesus’ example of a life of love and sacrifice in an effort to see those around us rescued. Pray that those around you without a relationship with Jesus would open their eyes to who Jesus is before it’s too late.
