“As You sent Me into the world, so I have sent them into the world.”

John 17:18 (ESV)

Josh Bratchley was rescued from a pitch-black underwater cave in northern Tennessee on Wednesday night April 17, 2019. The Mill Pond Cave system near Gainesboro in Jackson County is about 65 miles northeast of Nashville. What makes Bratchley’s rescue so interesting is that he was part of a team of rescuers that helped rescue 12 Thai teenage soccer players last summer in Thailand. What also makes it interesting is after being rescued Brantley said he just wanted some pizza.

This is so similar to God’s plan of rescuing the lost. God wants to use people who have been rescued to go help rescue others. Jesus prayed to the Father in John 17:18, “As You sent Me into the world, so I have sent them into the world.” And Jesus came to “seek and to save the lost.” (Luke 19:10) So now our mission is to be part of God’s Search and Rescue team.

Sometimes we forget what it’s like to be lost. Do you remember a time when you or your child was physically lost? What kind of emotions do you remember? Do you remember what it was like to be spiritually lost? What did you feel and think when you realized that you needed to be spiritually saved? Who or what did God use to help you understand how to be saved? Thank God for rescuing you and ask Him to use you to rescue others.
