Proverbs 15:30 (ESV)
“Do all things without grumbling or disputing, that you may be blameless and innocent, children of God without blemish in the midst of a crooked and twisted generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world”
Philippians 2:14-15 (ESV)
OPTIMIZE MY WORK: MAINTAIN A POSITIVE ATTITUDE
An out-of-towner drove his car into a ditch in a desolated area. Luckily, a local farmer came to help with his big strong horse named Buddy. He hitched Buddy up to the car and yelled, “Pull, Nellie, pull.” Buddy didn’t move. Then the farmer hollered, “Pull, Buster, pull.” Buddy didn’t respond. Once more the farmer commanded, “Pull, Jennie, pull.” Nothing. Then the farmer nonchalantly said, “Pull, Buddy, pull.” And the horse easily dragged the car out of the ditch. The motorist was most appreciative and very curious. He asked the farmer why he called his horse by the wrong name three times. The farmer said, “Oh, Buddy is blind, and if he thought he was the only one pulling, he wouldn’t even try.”
We have a choice. We can either approach life as an optimist, or we can approach life as a pessimist. Both optimists and pessimists look to the future. However, one sees the positive possibilities, while the other can only see the negative. God desires for us to have an attitude in the workplace that’s positive. In Philippians 2:14 God wants us to do everything without complaining. When we complain it’s a “blemish” on our witness for Christ. We said earlier this week that God wants our light to shine in the workplace and once again in Phillippians 2:15 Paul reminds us we are called to shine.
If we are shining as lights there should be less darkness wherever we go because of our attitude. There should be less darkness in our office. There should be less darkness in our classroom. There should be less darkness in our families. Is there less darkness around you because of your attitude?
