“For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things He planned for us long ago.”
Ephesians 2:10 (NLT2)
MY IDENTITY AS A CHILD OF GOD WAS DETERMINED AT MY SPIRITUAL BIRTH
An angry newspaper subscriber stormed into the reporter’s office and demanded an apology because he had been mistakenly put in the obituaries. The reporter said, “I never write retractions, but what I will do tomorrow is list you in the birth column and give you a brand new start.”
The good news for Christians is we get a brand new start. Ephesians 2:1 teaches we were spiritually dead before becoming a Christian when it says, “And you were dead in the trespasses and sins in which you once walked, following the course of this world.” And Ephesians 2:10 follows that up by saying now God, “has created us anew in Christ Jesus.” That was the moment of our new start.
When we are born spiritually into God’s family, we get a new identity as a child of God. We are in His family and we have a family resemblance. Much like when a baby is born, we try to figure out if they resemble their mom or dad. We get this new spiritual identity and have the privilege of letting other people see our Heavenly Father through us. In what ways do you think people see God in you? Ask God to give you opportunities today to allow others see how Christ is shaping your identity.
