“As you come to Him, a living stone rejected by men but in the sight of God chosen and precious, you yourselves like living stones are being built up as a spiritual house, to be a holy priesthood, to offer spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.”
1 Peter 2:4, 5 (ESV)
IDENTITY: YEAH BUT, YOU ARE WHO GOD SAYS YOU ARE
One day, educator and comedian Sam Levinson was standing with a group of men who seemed to tower above him. Someone asked, “Sam, don’t you feel strange surrounded by so many tall people?” He replied, “Yes, I do. I feel like a dime among a lot of pennies!” Some Christians may not be very “tall” in the eyes of some, and in fact the world often looks down on us. But in God’s sight we are of great worth!
A big question we all must wrestle with is “How does God see me?” Some of the lies we talked about Sunday are God is: 1) Disgusted with you; 2) Angry at you; 3) Disappointed in you; or 4) Distant from you. But the Bible clearly teaches that’s not how God sees you. Have you ever been tempted to believe one or more of those lies?
Once a year I have my vision checked. And each year the optometrist reminds me that I am getting older and we have to adjust my prescription just a little more. And every year after that small adjustment my vision goes back to being clearer. Sometimes we need a spiritual vision checkup. We need to ask God how He sees us and not how we see ourselves or how anyone else sees us. Take some time today for that spiritual eye checkup with God. Ask God to tell you clearly how He sees you.
