“Jesus came and stood among them and said to them, ‘Peace be with you.’…Jesus said to them again, ‘Peace be with you.’”
John 20:19, 21 ESV
EQUIPPED WITH THE TRUTH: PEACE
A horse sits down in a movie theater and the woman next to him asks, “Excuse me… are you a horse?” “Why yes, I am,” replies the horse. “What are you doing at this movie?” The horse says, “I really liked the book.”
The term horse whisper was popularized by a 1998 film starring Robert Redford entitled “Horse Whisperer.” In the film, the character played by Redford has an unusual ability to understand, communicate with and calm horses. Even more so Jesus has the ability to understand what we need and to communicate with us in such a way that brings peace and calm.
When Jesus said, “Peace be with you,” He granted us positional peace in a relationship with God. Because of the resurrection, rebellion against God was over and the war with sin was over. They were at peace with God through Jesus’ death and resurrection. In John 14:27, Jesus said, “Peace I leave with you; My peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.”
There is so much in life that can trouble our hearts. The more we listen and trust the words of Jesus the more peace we find. God can speak to us through His Word, circumstances, others, prayer or even through nature. When have you heard most clearly from God? Take some time today to go on a walk and ask God to speak to you as you observe His creation. Pray about the things He brings to mind.
