“And when He had said this, He breathed on them and said to them, ‘Receive the Holy Spirit.’”
John 20:22 ESV
EQUIPPED WITH THE TRUTH: POWER
Many of us grew up with the TV series Incredible Hulk and the infamous words, “Don’t make me angry. You wouldn’t like me when I’m angry.” Doctor David Banner was a physician who was traumatized by the tragic car accident that killed his beloved wife Laura. Haunted by his inability to save her, Banner studied incidents of people who, while in danger, somehow managed to summon superhuman strength in order to save their loved ones. He concluded that high levels of gamma radiation could provide this superhuman strength. And Banner was transformed into the Hulk in a gamma radiation laboratory mishap.
Jesus knew every Christian would need supernatural strength to help see their loved ones saved. And so He equipped every Christian with the Holy Spirit. Just before Jesus ascended back up into heaven He promised His disciples, “You will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be My witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” (Acts 1:8)
The Holy Spirit shows us our need for salvation and leads us to place our faith in Jesus. The Holy Spirit also gives us the power to live out the mission that God has for us. The old cliche remains true, “Where God guides He provides.” God will give you the power to go and do what He wants you to do today. When you get to the place where you realize you just can’t do “this,” you are in a perfect place to see God work through you. Ask God to make you aware of where He is sending you today. Thank God for the power to accomplish everything that He wants you to accomplish today.
