“Now Jesus did many other signs”
John 20:30 ESV
BELIEVING THE TRUTH: SIGNS
At an intersection, the green light changes to yellow; At the theater, the house lights flash; At a railroad crossing, the red lights begin to flash; In a small town the tornado siren screams; On the football field, the two minute warning sounds; In the cargo bay of a C-140 a red-light comes on. These are all signs of something important. The point of the sign is not the sign. The point of the sign is what the sign is pointing to.
Signs typically point to something bigger than themselves. In the book of John, John refers to Jesus’ miracles as signs. Those signs pointed to Jesus. John specifically mentioned 7 signs in his gospel but tells us Jesus did many more. According to pastor Rich Cathers, “Scholars have concluded that the gospels only record about 50 days of Jesus’ ministry. Yet Jesus’ total ministry of 3 ½ years comes to about 1080 days. That means that we only have record of 4.6% percent of Jesus’ ministry. Imagine the teaching, conversations, and ministry we’ve never heard about.”
Faith in Jesus’ miracles should lead to faith in His Word, and to personal faith in Jesus as Savior and Lord. Do you have a favorite miracle Jesus performed? What does that miracle tell you about the character and nature of Jesus? Ask God to use those things you believe about Jesus to grow your faith.
