“I can do all things through Him who strengthens me.”
Philippians 4:13 ESV
SECRETS OF CONTENTMENT: YOUR POWER
A very famous man was being introduced as the main speaker at a Christian banquet. The Master of Ceremonies kept saying, “This is a Spirit-filled man. He has a Spirit-filled prayer life, a Spirit-filled thought life, a Spirit-filled view of life” and on and on he went about this man being Spirit-filled. His wife was sitting at the head table next to another woman. The wife leaned over to the woman and said, “He may be Spirit-filled but I know he leaks.”
We all “leak” at times. And there are moments that require God-sized power. The main lesson Paul had learned about contentment was with God’s strength he could make it through anything. The secret was a strong relationship with Jesus. Paul wasn’t teaching life was easy. He was teaching that Jesus can get us through it.
Contentment comes as we grow to love Christ more completely. The next time life gets tough, confess to God that it’s tough but you are trusting His wisdom and leaning on His power to get you through. If you need a reminder during this season of life, you could write Philippians 4:13 on a sticky note and place it somewhere that you will see it during the day.
