“but God shows His love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Since, therefore, we have now been justified by His blood, much more shall we be saved by Him from the wrath of God… For if while we were enemies we were reconciled to God by the death of His Son, much more, now that we are reconciled, shall we be saved by His life.”
Romans 5:8, 10 ESV
BEAUTY AND THE BEAST: WHAT YOU DESERVE
A guy was crossing the street to visit his neighbor. As he started to cross the street, a car was bearing down on him, so he stopped and backed up to the curb. The car stopped, so he started to cross, and the car started to move toward him. He changed direction and went back to the curb and the car moved toward him. Then he moved to run across the street and the car swerved in that direction. He moved left and the car moved left. He moved right and the car moved right. Finally he just stopped in the middle of the road. The car screeched to a stop right in front of him. He walked around to the driver’s window and the window rolled down. The man was surprised to see a squirrel behind the driver’s wheel. The squirrel said, “I just wanted you to know what it feels like.”
Yesterday we looked at the importance of showing people mercy, which is not giving people the judgment or punishment they deserve. Today we are looking at showing people grace, which is giving people something good they don’t deserve. When Jesus died for us, it wasn’t because we deserved it. He died for our sins out of grace, because He wanted to.
There will be times in marriage that you have to choose to give your spouse something nice that they may not deserve at the time. The best motivation for doing this is to remember times that God has shown you grace. Pause and list at least 5 ways God has shown you grace lately. Ask God to grow your ability to follow His example of grace in your marriage and in all your relationships.
