“For David says concerning Him, “‘I saw the Lord always before me,
for He is at my right hand that I may not be shaken;”

DECLARATION OF DEPENDENCE: ENDOWED BY THEIR CREATOR
 

This week we will celebrate the founding of our nation which started with our Declaration of Independence from England. Foundational to the declaration was a belief, held by our Founding Fathers, that God was our Creator and had given us unalienable rights. That led them to write these words into our Declaration of Independence: We hold these truths to be self-evident: that all men are created equal; that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights; that among these are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. They held the belief that our independence was primarily found in our dependence in our Creator.

King David wrote the quote used in Acts 2:25 during a time of personal and political turmoil in his life. David had been anointed King but was running for his life, either living in the wilderness or hiding in a cave.  At a time when most of us would have been “shaken,” God was holding David steady. That was because David’s clear dependence was on God, his Creator, to get him through it all.

You have value because God made you in His image. You can depend on God because He loves you and as Creator is powerful enough to keep you steady. There will be seasons of political and personal turmoil but with God’s help we will not be shaken. Jude 24-25 reads, “Now to Him who is able to keep you from stumbling, And to present you faultless Before the presence of His glory with exceeding joy, To God our Savior, Who alone is wise, Be glory and majesty, Dominion and power, Both now and forever. Amen.” Let that be your prayer today. Declare your dependence on your Creator today.
