DECLARATION OF DEPENDENCE: LIFE
Two elderly women were out driving in a large car. As they were cruising along, they came to an intersection. The stoplight was red, but they just went on through. The woman in the passenger seat thought to herself “I must be losing it. I could have sworn we just went through a red light.” After a few more minutes, they came to another intersection and the light was red again. Again, they went right through. The woman in the passenger seat was almost sure that the light had been red but was really concerned that she was losing it. She was getting nervous. At the next intersection, sure enough, the light was red and they went on through. So, she turned to the other woman and said, “Mildred, did you know that we just ran through three red lights in a row? You could have killed us both!” Mildred turned to her and said, “Oh! Am I driving?”
In Acts 2:28, David was running for his life and God was showing him which way to go to stay alive. When our Founding Fathers wrote the Declaration of Independence, they believed the right to life was a God-given right. It’s recorded in Genesis 2:7, “then the Lord God formed the man of dust from the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living creature.” Jesus taught in John 10:10, “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.”
In what ways do you believe Satan may be trying to rob you of “life?” In what ways do you believe Satan may be trying to steal, kill and destroy life in our community? We value life because God values life. We value each other because God values others. Confess your dependence to God for eternal life and abundant life right now. Confess your dependence on Jesus to bring life to our community and our nation.
