“And the Lord appointed a great fish to swallow Jonah,”
Jonah 1:17 NASB
WHALE LIFE: GOD’S APPOINTEES
A group of people had been shipwrecked and floating in a lifeboat. Two of the shipwrecked men watched as those at the other end of the lifeboat bailed frantically to keep the boat afloat. Then one of the two said to the other, “Thank heaven, the hole is not on our end of the boat.”
Jonah had gotten on the wrong boat trying to run from God. That ship was destined to sink until the crew threw Jonah overboard. And like Jonah all our plans are ultimately destined to fail if they aren’t what God is calling us to do. But we learned God “appointed” a great fish to rescue Jonah. The word “appointed” could also be translated ordained or assigned. Even though Jonah was disobeying God, God still had a plan to save Jonah. In this case, God used a fish to get Jonah headed back in the right direction.
Many of us can relate to being on a “ship” that is sinking because of running from God. And though I don’t know anyone else where God used a whale as part of His plan to get them back on the right track, I know He will use whatever it takes because He loves us.
Do you remember something, someone or a situation God “appointed” to get you headed back in the right direction? Thank God for loving you enough to point you back in the right direction.
