“and Jonah was in the stomach of the fish three days and three nights.”
Jonah 1:17 NASB
WHALE LIFE: GOD’S TIMING
An older man was standing on a crowded bus. The young man standing next to him asked, “What time is it?” The older man refused to reply. The young man moved on. The older man’s friend, sensing something was wrong, asked, “Why were you so discourteous to the young man asking for the time?” The old man answered, “If I had given him the time of day, next he would want to know where I was going. Then we might talk about our interests. If we did that, he might invite himself to my house for dinner. If he did, he would meet my lovely daughter. If he met her, they would both fall in love. I don’t want my daughter marrying someone who can’t afford a watch.”
It’s been said that timing is everything. We can only imagine what Jonah was thinking as he entered the belly of the great fish! It’s pretty safe to assume he didn’t think he would last 3 minutes much less 3 days. Those 3 days must have seemed like forever. God decided that 3 days was exactly how long it would take to get Jonah headed back in the right direction.
When we are in seasons of correction from God it may seem like they will never end. But trust God will keep you in that season just as long is necessary and not a minute longer. His timing is always perfect. If you are in a season of correction, ask God what He wants you to change? Then cooperate and obey as soon as possible!
