“For nothing will be impossible with God.”
Luke 1:37 ESV
THE MIRACLE OF OVERSHADOWING
Employers at a Detroit business office found they were having a difficult time getting the job done so they posted the following notice on the employee bulletin board: “The management regrets that it has come to their attention that workers dying on the job are failing to fall down. This practice must stop, as it becomes impossible to distinguish between death and natural movement of the staff. Any employee found dead in the upright position will henceforth be dropped from the payroll.” (Under Construction, Walden)
There are a host of things that are impossible for us to do. One of them is the virgin birth. Talk show host Larry King was once asked the question, “If you could select any one person across all of history to interview, who would it be?” King answered by saying that he would like to sit down and talk with Jesus Christ: “I would like to ask Him if he was indeed virgin-born. The answer to that question would define history for me.” King, understood that a virgin birth WAS impossible for man. And if that‘s how Jesus was born, He had to be God.
The greatest impossibility for man is to save himself. And that is ultimately what Luke 1:37 is referring too. Be careful of not minimizing this verse to material temporal things. However, if the greater is true the lesser is true. If God can be all man and all God and be sinless and raise from the grave and save our souls, all the other stuff is easy and He is more than able to accomplish anything.
God can and will do anything that He determines. Do you know anyone, including yourself, who you thought would never become a Christian but has? Do you know anyone who is not a Christian and seems impossible to lead to Christ? Pray for the difficult friends and family members you know and ask God to do what seems “impossible” in their souls this Christmas.
