“Beware of practicing..”
Matthew 6:1 ESV
The recent fires in northern California have been incredibly destructive. They have burned over 200,000 acres and done billions of dollars in damage. Over 11,000 firefighters have bravely tried to protect life and property as best they can. The Governor of California recently said, “This is truly one of the greatest, if not the greatest tragedy that California has ever faced.” Some of the most disturbing news videos have been the people literally running for the lives trying to escape the approaching fires even though firefighters have done the best they can to warn the residents of the approaching danger.
In Matthew 6, Jesus is also warning His followers of approaching dangers. He begins in Matthew 6:1 by saying, “Beware of practicing.” He was warning us that there are certain practices and things that we chase after that can ultimately be destructive to our physical, emotional and physical wellbeing.
This week we will dig a little deeper into some of the dangerous things that we chase after and how they can impact our lives. If you heard Pastor Mike’s sermon Sunday, did God remind or warn you of anything that you are chasing after that isn’t good for you? Have you done anything about it? Ask God now to open your eyes to approaching dangers and to show you the way of escape.
