“And this is eternal life, that they know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent.”
John 17:3 ESV
REMEMBER RELATIONALLY
A man was honored by receiving an honorary doctorate at a major university. When he was introduced to the audience, the announcer said, “A very great man, no, a very, very great man indeed is with us tonight.” During the ride home, the man was still riding high on the crest of his wave of glory. He asked his wife, “Honey, how many very, very great men do you suppose there are in the world?” She said, “One less than you think, Dear.”
If we are going to Win the Day, we must remember it’s not about us. Life is about knowing God. In John 17:3, Jesus used the phrase “that they know You.” “Know” is a present tense verb, which means that our knowledge of God continues and continues. He is referring to a personal, intimate relationship with the living God, which grows as the years press on. He does not mean that we know about God, rather we know God. Jesus says that it’s all about coming to know God personally and intimately not just an intellectual knowledge or awareness about God.
Do you know God or just know about God? What are the things you would do to get to know someone better? How can you apply some of these same practices to your relationship with God? One thing we can do is pray that God develop an intimate knowledge of Him and get to know Him better.
