ENJOY WHAT’S PERMANENT
A minister and a Congressman arrived at the Pearly Gates at the same time. Saint Peter greeted both of them and assigned them to their quarters. Peter said, “Pastor, here are the keys to one of our nicest efficiency units. And for you, Mr. Congressman, the keys to our finest penthouse suite.” The preacher protested, “Hey, what’s the deal? This is unfair!” Peter replied, “Listen, ministers are a dime a dozen up here, but this is the first Congressman we’ve ever seen!”
Heaven will be a permanent place of joy for Christians one day. Everything the world offers us as a source of joy is temporary. The joy Jesus offers us is based on His unchanging nature. It is also based on what Jesus has done and will do for us. Jesus doesn’t change our lives only for a season, He changes our lives for eternity. Evangelist Billy Sunday once said, “The trouble with many men is that they have got just enough religion to make them miserable. If there is not joy in religion, you’ve got a leak in your religion.”
