“The king said to him, “Where is he?” And Ziba said to the king, “He is in the house of Machir the son of Ammiel, at Lo-debar.” Then King David sent and brought him from the house of Machir the son of Ammiel, at Lo-debar.”
2 Samuel 9:4,5 ESV
GOD IS KIND: WHEN HE FINDS US
DISCOVERED BY GRACE
Most of us have been moved over the last couple of weeks by the images of people being rescued from the floods of Texas. The damage of what was Hurricane Harvey is unprecedented in our country. Some of the most inspirational stories have been of those first responders and private citizens who have gone from house to house looking for those who need to be rescued from the flood waters. Many of those private citizens didn’t have to put themselves in harm’s way but chose to help rescue people out of the kindness of their hearts.
In 2 Samuel 9, King David didn’t have to seek out and rescue Mephibosheth. He did it out of the kindness of his heart. Once again this is a picture of God rescuing us out of the kindness of His heart. God is kind. Sin often causes us to want to hide from God. We can see this all the way back in Genesis 3 when Adam and Eve attempted to hide from God in the garden. And God in His grace came looking for them the same way He comes looking for us. Thank God that He came looking for you.
What about the people like Mephibosheth all around us? Some with broken hearts, others with damaged emotions, a few with crushed spirits, many with wounded bodies, others with shattered souls, and a lot with physical needs. Are we ignoring them? Or are we seeking them out to show them the kindness of God? Ask God to help you seek out someone to show kindness in the name of Jesus today.
