There is more than enough room in my Father’s home.
If this were not so, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you?
John 14:2 (NLT2)
A PLACE CALLED HOME
The Harbor of Alexandria was very difficult to approach. When the great corn ships came into it, a little pilot boat was sent out to guide them in. It went before them, and they followed it as it led them along the channel to safe waters. That pilot boat was called the prodomos.
“Promodos” is the word Jesus used to describe Himself going ahead to prepare a place in heaven for us. In the Roman army, the “prodomos” were the reconnaissance troops. They went ahead of the main body of the army to blaze the trail and ensure that it was safe for the rest of the troops to follow.
Jesus is saying both things about Himself and heaven in John 14. He goes to heaven first, to make it safe for those who follow. And He led the way to heaven, that we might follow in His steps. Jesus described heaven as a loving home where our Heavenly Father lives.
D.L. Moody said, “The thought of Heaven has cheered the soul of many believers. Some say that we are fools to believe in Heaven. But, to deny Heaven is to deny Jesus, for He came from Heaven, it is to place our departed loved ones in the cold dark grave, it is to deprive millions of Christians of the greatest hope they have. To deny Heaven is equal to murder, for it kills hope, to thievery for it robs joy, to slander because it calls God a liar.”
Praise God for the things about the thought of heaven that make your heart happy.
